Merry-Go-Round - SPRING!

This month we all share with you our thoughts on Spring...

Rebirth is my theme for Spring, such a cliché, I know, but oh so true! First, the flowers in our garden, whipping my brain with their colours...

Then there is one section of the garden that we left to its own devices, and where we have been rewarded with lovely wild flowers...

Some are even growing out of the rock...

Lilies keep unfurling and aloe veras keep making babies...

Then, they are local treasures like this 'beach' which looks absolutely stunning in Spring, where we had a picnic with my little nephews last week (see previous post):

And the rebirth theme continues on the beach with Sea Glass, found only last week, these discarded pieces of glass have spent years being churned over by the sea, hitting rocks, getting frosted. I'm researching how to identify Sea Glass, and I am fascinated by my finds...

Refused glass, reclaimed and altered by the sea, found and altered again by me... This keyring sold an hour after being listed.

Last but not least, a new lease of life: here's a pendant I am really proud of... my local stone supplier, Feryal, asked for help with a broken slab of turquoise, and I've managed to give the illusion that the stone is complete and looks like a heart, thanks to the woven and sculpted wire. It took a couple of days to 'see' what it should become, but it looks happy enough with its new image...

The back of the pendant however, tells its true story...

New life everywhere, I love Spring!
Thanks for reading.

Small in size, big on impact: here are the cutest 2 reasons for my blogging holiday, my little nephews Tristan (2 and a half) and Youen (1 and a few bananas). We've spent 2 weeks throwing stones in the sea and going on all the slides we could find, and had a fabulous time goofing around!

Long necklaces/ Colliers longs

Obsessed with the return of the sun - and therefore the heat - I am thinking way ahead for when wearing anything more than perfume will result in severe sweaty discomfort (I apologise if you're eating - or just have, etc.), and I am desperate to wear jewellery this summer (I normally go naked)... So these long charm necklaces keep appearing before my eyes, with minimum skin contact with metal, and little beads and stones which move and let me breathe...

Merry-Go-Round

This month we all give you our favourite easy recipes!!

I don't cook, I only bake, my husband LOVES cooking, so who am I to deprive him? So much for legendary Cooking of French Women (haha, I'm with Agathe on the degenerate bit :D)
So my recipe today is a hearty/heavy dessert/breakfast from my native Brittany: Le Far Breton. Dates back from the 18th century, first baked for religious festivals, traditionally full of prunes (but can't find any here in Turkey, would you believe, so I make mine with sultanas), it's heavy and sweet and will melt in your mouth. Funny texture, no baking powder and a piece of cake to make :P
It used to be the stapled dessert of family sunday roasts, I understand why my mother made this on a regular basis: 3 kids at home, always hungry and moaning for bits to munch on, but this 'Far' fills corners, so she got peace and quiet for a few hours... :)

FAR BRETON

Preparation: 15 min
Cooking: 50 min

Ingredients (serves 6 - 8 people):

- 200 gr. (or 2 cups) of flour
- 200 gr. (or 1 cup) of sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 litre of milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (or packet of vanilla sugar)
- 300 gr. (or 10 oz) of pitted dried prunes (or sultanas, dried apricots, etc.)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together, except the prunes (or sultanas…), then pour the preparation in a pan.

Put the pan on medium heat and stir it up continuously until this mixture thickens a little. This should take 4 or 5 minutes.

Butter a baking dish, and pour in half of the preparation.
Lay out the prunes, and pour the rest of the mixture in the dish.

Oven cook at medium heat 180 degree C (350°F) for approximately 50 min.

Eat cold.

Here's one I made earlier (does not look much, but tastes great!!!)

Spring/Printemps

To celebrate the return of the sun (well, almost...) after a really long winter full of thunderstorms and icy winds, here are 2 charm necklaces with soft colours, bringing out my little skippy step, announcing warmth coming back to this side of the world...Long necklaces, 68 and 75 cm.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Finished this pendant yesterday... I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA why I called it "Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds", the title just popped in, and everything else went blank... Mind you, that happens to me quite often - BLANK - See?!
