More rocks...
Out for a walk with Jack after a heavy bout of rain... the colours of the rocks are 10 times stronger, and these are my latest finds... The white group I think is marble, it is very dense and grainy. I think I also picked up some pink marble, (gorgeous colours!), a streaky stone (grey and white - is that marble too?), calcite nuggets of course, they just glittered, ready to be picked up! The black stones puzzle me, especially the shinier of the 2, as there's not many like it around. The other black stone has a funny little yellow imprint which looks like a duck, so sweet!

okee dokee, what tests did you do? :-) To me, the white sparkly ones look like quartz, the yellowish at the top of the middle look like calcite, the ones on the far right that are kind of reddish....could be calcite, could be marble... the gray stone with the streak..the streak is probably either quartz or calcite...can't tell anything about the stone, but logic says it might be limestone...the shiney black one and the other...I'm guessing they are igneous, probably basalt...something like that...the pink ones look interesting... if they're calcite or marble they'll fizz if you scratch up enough dust. The way to tell the diff between calcite and quartz, simplest way, is that quartz is harder - higher up on the MOHS scale AND it won't fizz. Have fun! I hope that helps! It's hard to tell without touching and testing them myself, but I think I might be close.
I have no idea about stones, I just like them really but I couldn't identify them in years.
Do you actually do all the lapidary work yourself? cutting, polishing, etc...
Thanks Shelby, I'll update later on with test results :)
Marian, I don't cut or polish, I leave that to the experts!!!
I took a workshop a few years ago on lapidary work. If only I had the tools, I'd do it for you.
Thanks for the offer Mariana, if ever you get the tools, I'll take you up on that!!
I love the ducky!!! Make it into something - it just looks so sweet sat there on the rock!
