Merry-Go-Round... what's your purple cow?

Time for another ride on the Merry-Go-Round!!
Jump on and join a group of 9 artists/crafts-women as they link around the world and tell you a little about their lives in art and craft...

This month’s question: What is your purple cow?

Yes, funky question isn’t it? It relates to Seth Godin’s work and book ‘Transform your business by being remarkable’, where the key to success is to make your work stand out…so the question here is to recognise what makes our work stand out from the crowd, just like a purple cow would stand out in a field of regular cows.

I have been thinking about it for a few days and it’s much easier to see the purple cow in other people’s work… lol…

I reckon there’s a few shades of purple in my cow, one of them is that I tend to make huge pieces of costume jewellery, some of my cocktail rings are particularly humongous, and they are always seem to get a reaction in people. I am an attention seeker and my creations are no different!

Another shade of purple would be the sheer amount of natural and semi-precious stones I use in my work. Semi-precious stones are magical, and I am yet to meet someone who does not like stones…

Then there’s the style of my work which is baroque, ornate and intricate, it looks complicated even if it’s not, it’s OTT and ‘life’s too short’ type of feeling, which especially in these harsh times, can be quite appealing…

I also try to add another dimension to a creation by giving the inspiration behind the piece; it can be a picture or a short text, a quotation, a title and so on. I am very drawn to the world of fairy tales, witches and wizards, pirates and so on, children’s books like Cinderella or Peter Pan, and this fantasy world is obviously very popular!

This has been a difficult question to answer, but a very rewarding one, give it a try!!!

itś very interesting how you answered this question which has been one tought bone to chew! I trully think that your work is unique. Your rings are fan-tas-tique! :) I think they are your purple cow indeed... they represent very well the whole of your work: intricate, ellaborated, colorful, barroque indeed... just a piece of art each. They stand out and make you stand out.

Yes! I always see your cow as the intricacy combined with boldness. So often those two characteristics don't come together - but with you, they set each other off. Intricacy seems tiny, perfect and precise....warranting close examination and then Wham! there's a big bold something too! There's also that sense of playfulness too - which I think your stories help blossom.
This subject was tricky, but it was really useful too. It gives some sort of grounding to what we do and how we can go forward.. Loved your post.

It is very correct that your purple cows are: baroque, ornate and intricate. It is very detail and delicate. You feel that there are very high skills involved. I love them!

I love attention seeking!!
Your work definitely attracts my attention, through its beautiful dreamlike quality - and I love the way that you always offset that by including a real showstopper in the mix. Those fabulous huge stones simply emphasise your amazingly intricate work. Perfectly. xx

Whilst reading your post I was slowly colouring in your cow. When I reflected on the image I had created in my head I saw this gorgeous glowing cow full of various shades of purple just like a precious stone and just like Easterya Jewellery Creations: sparkley in detail and intricacy and ultimately standing out even from the purple cows. :)

I think you have it spot on! I love your big, yet delicate designs... attention seeking, but ultimately feminine.
