Merry-go-round collaboration project!

For the last friday of the month and last day of the year, we decided on a collaboration project for our Merry-Go-Round posts. Each of us received some supplies from another merry member and the challenge was to create a collaboration piece.

Kim of Viltalakim, asked me which colours I preferred and sent me the most DELICIOUS supplies made out of felt! I receive little acorns with their natural hats, 2 of them still on their little branches!! – felted ‘cords’ which will be perfect for bracelets and necklaces, and the most incredible piece of felt I have ever held in my hands. First the colours are my favourite combo: green and pink, I just love it! Furthermore, the felt piece had FOLDS!!!!They add texture and movement without me doing anything to it… Just fabulous!

Straight away I knew I wanted to make a cuff adding lace and wired pieces.

Working with Kim’s felt was pure pleasure, the felt is thick and soft, I hardly have any visible stitches on the back of the cuff, so no need to hide anything and it becomes a real wrist warmer, it’s sooooooo lovely and soft!!!

My wired pieces consist of a leaf with silver plated wire and semi-precious stones and a dragonfly made out of copper wire with topaze, rock crystal chips and crystals. I added embellishments of fabric and lace flowers, and a few beads, ribbon and lace that I found in my local market.
This one is MINE!!! I absolutely ADORE it!!! THANK YOU KIM!!!!

Such a nice way to finish the year, I enjoyed all our merry posts throughout 2010 and I look forward to 2011!!!

This month: How to care for your art - information for buyers.

My jewellery is mainly made out of silver plated and artistic wire. To enjoy it for as long as possible, it needs to be kept wrapped in tissue paper and/or sealed plastic bag, in a dry place, away from dust and humidity. The stones will not budge but the wire won't like getting wet, so avoid washing dishes and the likes while wearing it. Handmade jewellery is always a little more fragile, despite my taking huge care and many hours to make sure that all wire ends are secure, it is not as strong as machine made jewellery. Be aware, but ENJOY!!!

Here's a little extra bit, directly related to last month merry post, which was about trying something new... I dived into fabric and sewing, and managed to finish a piece I LOVE... And it's all thanks to this wonderful group of thought provoking, super friendly and supportive ladies!!! A huge thank you to you all, especially to Ruth, our guru!! :)

So here's my take on wire-wrapping and fabric:

Last but not least: I am already not very good at all at blogging... I apologise in advance, as I have a feeling it might get worse lol: We are expecting our first baby at the end of January, and he is already mushing up my brain!! So don't expect too much from me for a few months lol!!!:)

Les Années Folles... The Roaring 1920's...

Pour le défi "Années Folles" d'ALM voici un (modeste) homage à la célèbre, énigmatique et fascinante Mademoiselle Chanel, qui dans ses bijoux fantaisie aimaient que les pierres semi-précieuses côtoient les fausses perles, le strass et les métaux considérés non-précieux.

Dans “l’esprit de Coco”, de belles aigues-marines naturelles dans les tons allant du bleu au blanc sont accompagnés de perles de verre beige irisé récupérées d’un collier des années 70, séparées par des petites pierres naturelles: aigue-marine, nacre et quartz blanc. Le tout est monté sur double fil noué à la main après chaque perle.

Le collier (qui peut aussi se porter en bracelet) est réhaussé d’un élément en wire plaqué argent d’inspiration Art Déco, composé d’une phrénite au centre et brodé de perles d’eau douce, aigue-marine, nacre, quartz blanc et petites perles de verre, fini par un toggle et apprêts en métal argenté.
Le collier mesure 59 cm et pèse 44 gr.

For ALM 's Roaring Twenties theme this month, here is my modest contribution to the famous, enigmatic and fascinating Mademoiselle Chanel, who liked in her costme jewellery to mix precious and non-precious elements.

So in this necklace called "Coco's Spirit", beautiful natural aquamarine sit next to 'salvaged' glass beads from a 70's necklace, separated with small stones (quartz, mother-of-pearl and aquamarine), strung on double thread which has been hand-knotted between each bead. Accompanied by a Art Deco inspired wire-wrapped element embroidered with small natural stones. Finished with metal toggle and findings.
The necklace can also be worn as a bracelet, measures 59 cm and weighs 44 gr.

This month’s merry theme has been an absolute treat for me, since I felt my inspiration deserting me with my wire-wrapped pieces lately, so a little break from wire was very welcome indeed!

Like everyone else, I have bits of fabric lying around doing absolutely nothing, and despite having moved house 3 times in the past 5 years, these remnants have survived 3 clear-outs, so I decided to find something to do with them!

I like sewing, I am no good at it, I don’t know anything about it, but I love the idea of being able to make something out of fabric. It involves so many skills!!! The most challenging for me was to actually think about what the finished product would look like… with wire-wrapping I don’t really do the thinking beforehand, I have an idea or a mood or a colour scheme and I just run with it – or rather my wire does lol!!

So I started to look around for simple sewing projects I could do by hand (I don’t have a sewing machine), and there are thousands of websites, forums and tutorials out there!!!

I searched for a few days and in the end I stumbled upon Flowerpotdesign who very generously put together fabric flower tutorials from around the web!!!
And that was that, flowers it would be!

I read every tutorial, and came up with these:

And because you can take the girl out of the wire, but you can’t get the wire out of the girl lol:

This has given me new ideas, I am investing in supplies at the moment, so nothing concrete yet, but fabric is definitely on the cards…

'Métamorphose', car l'oeil de tigre est une pierre plutôt masculine... que j'ai essayé ici de féminiser au maximum avec un corset!! La pierre centrale était pour moi irrésistible, tellement lumineuse!!
Collier réglable avec 2 mètres de ruban à nouer, le collier peut se porter en ras-de-cou, mi-long et sautoir.
Le pendentif est serti de wire plaqué argent, traité pour résister au ternissement, brodé de minuscules perles d'eau douce, cristaux, onyx, nacre, quartz blanc, oeil de tigre, agate indienne et citrine, et de petites perles de verre.

"Metamorphosis" as tiger eyes are rather 'masculine' stones... and here I have tried to make it as feminine as possible, with a corset!! The focal stone was irresistible to me, so luminous!!
Adjustable necklace with 2 meters of ribbon to knot. The necklace can be as short or as long as you want.
The pendant is wrapped with silver-plated wire and embroidered withtiny freshwater pearls, crystals, onyx, mother-of-pearl, white quartz, tiger eye, indian agate and citrine, and glass seed beads.

This month, we talk about our favourite colours and how they come into our work.

My favourite colours are raspberry and teal, but in natural stones, they are very very, VERY rare lol!!! So I like to work with all colours, I don’t really have a favourite, nor do I follow the summer/spring etc. colour schemes.

I look in my stone stash every day (I have several boxes like this one above) and there is always a stone that jumps at me, and most of the time it’s colour is related to the mood I’m in, the weather outside (well, mostly how strong the sun is outside lol), what I am wearing etc…

At the moment I am making a lot a little pendants, so I dive in every box and leave no stone unturned, as it were lol, to pick a couple of stones to work on that day.

In general, the deeper or stronger the colour, the more I am drawn to it.

I also always give my creations a name, and a lot of the time, it is in direct relation to the colour of the stones I have used, like below “Iris and Whipped Cream”, “Seafoam”, “Blackcurrant” or “Ice Drop”.

Also sometime, the colour of the stone gives me a feeling or an (often warped!) emotion, and the name comes from that, like “The Vampire’s Fiancee”, “Creek”, “Desert Rose” or “Gothika”.

Matched them yet? =D

So here's my 'little' candy shop, a humongous ring made with lots of round beads and a round cab from my beadaholic friend Zaza, wire-wrapped and embroidered with as many stones as I could find in deliciously fresh colours, accompanied by a bee who could not resist this sugary heaven...

This month's question that we will answer is:
How much, if at all, does your geographical location affect your art/craft?

Quite a lot, especially on a practical level.
I started making silver jewellery a few years ago when I was still living in the UK. I went to a silversmithing evening class, and thought nothing of working with silver as all the material and tools I needed were readily available.
Our relocation to Turkey changed all that. Silver is of course available here too, but not in so many forms, the sheets of silver I could find only had one thickness and wires are not all packed in different gauges and softness/hardness. You had to be a fully-fledged silversmith to work with silver in this country, not play at it like I was… it was difficult and very frustrating, and after a few months’ battle, I gave up. No jewellery for a year…

Then I discovered wire-wrapping and was hooked instantly. I played around with the silver wire I had left over, but I knew I had to look for an alternative if I wanted to continue. Luckily I found a local stone supplier who stocked artistic wires, it took a while but finally the adventure started :)

On an ‘inspiration’ level, Turkey is a beautiful country, with a rich history, stunning landscapes, and amazing beaches, where people are friendly and life is simple. My priorities have changed tremendously since living here, and of course my surroundings play an important part in inspiring jewelry pieces, but it is more the relocating and adapting to a totally new life that has the biggest impact on what I create.
I used to want to shock, but now I just do what feels right, because life’s too short.

Merry-Go-Round, healthy and quick recipe!!

This month, we all share a quick and healthy recipe that leaves us with plenty of time to create...Well, meringue is quick and healthy, but I am not sure about the cream… Oh well never mind lol!!!Enjoy!!

Raspberry Meringue Roulade

4 large egg whites
250 gr of sugar
Raspberries and whipping cream

Beat egg whites until you get soft peaks. Slowly add the sugar and continue beating until the meringue is thick and shiny. Rub a little bit of the meringue between two fingers and if you can still feel the sugar, keep beating.

Spread the meringue evenly over a rectangular dish and bake in a 200°C oven for about 8 minutes. The meringue should be turning a golden colour, and the surface should be starting to crisp up. Turn the oven down to 160°C and bake for another 8 minutes. The meringue should still be soft in the centre.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 20 minutes.

Spread with whipped cream, sprinkle raspberries over the surface and roll. Don't worry if the meringue starts to crack a little. Just keep rolling. Transfer to a platter and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

This isn’t a pic of mine, coz we wolfed the meringue down before I remembered to take a pic lol… and this one looks much nicer than mine anyway!!!

Our question this month:

How do you network? In what ways does it work and not work?

I am lousy at networking… I guess for me networking is time away from crafting, and in order for networking to be really rewarding, you have to keep at it regularly, and I am very wary of starting something that I cannot keep up with. Crafting takes most hours in my day, and I know I should make time for networking, to get out of my bubble and see the world lol!!

The best and most enjoyable networking I do is right here right now with my fellow merry-go-rounders. We are a group small enough to be personal, big enough to have different and interesting points of view and experiences to share. I guess this type of networking is more my cup of tea, where I ‘know’ people, it ‘means’ something rather than ‘be’ … like Facebook, if you see what I mean…

So how do I network? Well, I blog (whenever I remember to), post on Flickr and although I like Flickr I haven’t been there for quite a while, but it’s a fabulous place to find amazing talents and artists in every domain possible… I spend hours trying to work out having a page on Facebook (unsuccessfully) and I must say I am not a Facebook fan at all… I participate once in a blue moon in forums in Dawanda and the French selling venue A Little Market… I suppose I am a tad unsociable… :P
I guess I’ll need to work on all these listed before starting on anything else!!!

Batifole - Cocktail ring

A biiiig ring full of stones: black agate, garnets, onyx, pearls... a butterfly is playing in a vineyard... Merlot? Shiraz? Pinot Noir? You choose!

Voici une grosse bague en pierres: agate noire, grenat, onyx, perles d'eau douce... un petit papillon batifole dans une vigne... Merlot? Shiraz? Pinot Noir? A vous de choisir!!

Fuji

Mount Fuji is Japan's highest mountain, a sacred place, a religious symbol whose history is filled with legends, it is also a volcano that's considered still active, though the risk of eruption is low. The last one dates back to 1707.
For this necklace I have chosen red River Jasper stones, the focal bead is a cone, albeit a 2D one, to echo the shape of the mountain. Its markings are amazing, looking like lava pouring down. I like the particular red colour of this type of jasper, a vintage kind of red which went well with the history of Mount Fuji (well I thought so anyway)! :)
Decorated with freshwater pearls, crystals, mother-of-pearl, red coral, garnet, onyx and glass seed beads.

Le Mont Fuji, point culminant du Japon, montagne sacrée, symbole religieux aux multiples légendes, Fuji est un volcan toujours considéré actif (le risque est faible apparemment) et dont la dernière éruption remonte à 1707.
Pour ce collier j’ai choisi du jaspe ‘rivière’: La pierre centrale est un jaspe rouge strié de minéraux divers, comme des coulées de lave sur les pentes d’un volcan; la pierre apparait fissurée mais elle est parfaitement lisse, de plus la couleur rouge particulière à ce type de jaspe lui donne un petit air vintage, qui je trouve se marie bien avec l’histoire de la montagne. Qui sait combien de magma se cache encore au sein du Mont Fuji??
Le collier et le pendentif sont décorés de perles d'eau douce, petits cristaux, nacre, onyx, corail rouge, grenat, et de petites perles de verre.

Pendentif imposant et réversible fabriqué grace aux techniques du wire-wrapping et décoré de pierres naturelles, composé d'une belle agate rose fushia de forme originale, presque en 3D, sertie de wire sculpté et tissé plaqué argent résistant au ternissement et traité anti-allergie, décoré de perles d'eau douce, nacre, quartz rose, péridot, améthyste, tourmaline, agate indienne et cristaux, petites perles de verre, une breloque 'fleur' d'un coté et une breloque 'fée' de l'autre.
* Le pendentif mesure 5 cm de longueur et 4.5 cm de largeur (approx).
* Imposant, il fait 1.5cm d'épaisseur!!
* Poids: 31gr.
* Unique!!
Le bougainvillier est un petit arbuste grimpant qui ne tient en extérieur que si il n'y a aucun risque de gel. C'est un arbuste très courant les jardins au climat méditerranéen ou tropical. Ses fleurs sont superbes et très colorées!!!

Welcome to our Merry-Go-Round!!! We are an international group of artists and crafters who meet on the last friday of each month, and blog about a common theme... This month, it's a swap! We all made a little something for a fellow Merry-go-rounder!!

My gift comes from Alison who uses Harris tweed as her main material in her work. I am a total tweed virgin lol, so I got a little info from Wiki:
'Harris Tweed (Clò Mór or Clò na Hearadh in Gaelic), is a luxury cloth that has been handwoven by the islanders on the Isles of Harris, Lewis, Uist and Barra in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, using local wool.'

And here's my delicious new friend, baptised Maya!

Maya is made of tweed the most scrumptious shade of raspberry, which is a favourite colour of mine!! Such a sweet little russian doll, perfectly proportionned... she is BEAUTIFUL!! The finishing touches are just to die for, her little sleepy face is so adorable, so NEAT!!! The little natural tweed bag is so cute too!!!

Your work is gorgeous Alison, thank you so much for this lovely gift!!

Le Paradis des Papillons * Butterflies' Paradise...

Un pendentif vraiment imposant!!! J’utilise toujours au moins deux diamètres différents de wire pour une créa, et pour ce pendentif j’ai pris du fil 0.8mm pour l’armature et du 0.3mm pour le tissage et le brodage. L’armature de fil 0.8 mm est entièrement recouverte de fil 0.3mm… j’enroule le fil fin à la main sur le fil épais... je mouline, si vous voyez ce que je veux dire…arf arf arf… Il faut environ 1 mètre 50 de fil fin pour couvrir 15 cm de fil épais, beaucoup plus pour les portions tissées… et un peu plus pour le brodage…

Pour l’armature seule du pendentif il m’a fallu 1 mètre 59 cm de fil 0.8mm, et en fil 0.3mm j’ai utilisé 16 mètres 33 cm… TOTAL: 17 mètres 92 !

A seriously chunky pendant!!!I use at least 2 different diameters of wire for each creation, and for this pendant I used 0.8mm for the frame and 0.3mm for coiling, weaving and decorating with small stones. The frame (0.8mm) is entirely coiled with 0.3mm; I coil by hand. I need around 1.5 meter of thin wire to cover 15 cm of thick wire, a lot nore for the woven portions, a little more when I add the stones…

For the frame alone I used 1.59 meter of 0.8mm wire, and 16.33 meters of thin 0.3mm wire…
TOTAL: 17.92 meters!!!

It's Merry time!!!!
This month's question: what do I hope to achieve this year?

There are only two things I REALLY want to achieve this year:
The first is to continue my collaborations with these two lovely people: Isabelle and Chris
As soon as I saw Zaza's mindboggling patient and neat work I thought we could combine our skills into truly unique creations. Zaza bought some of my tutorials and is now well into wire-wrapping and has her own unique creations mixed with her fabulously neat beadwork, and we just started our collaboration with these 2 HUGE rings!!!

Chris works with silver, natural stones and has the most amazing eye for finding truly amazing handmade lampork beads. She regularly checks up on me and what I create, pounces on what takes her fancy and incorporate my work into hers. This is her latest materpiece and it takes my breath away everytime I look at it... Chris has SUCH a gift for making stones and beads look as beautiful as they possibly can, absolutely amazing!!!!

My second goal this year is to keep having fun creating of course, and to go beyond what I have done so far... Now here's the tricky bit... what does it actually mean??? Well, it may mean 'go beyond in size' and I actually have one on-going project with a huge raw amethyst that I want to make into a decorative item... but I also want to progress in wire-wrapping and make something that makes me gawp and say: did I make that??? And subsequently have a big grin on my face... =D

And also, I want to get to grips with Facebook... because, dear me, I am so lost in there, I reckon it's a great marketing tool, but phew... they have not made it simple... Or am I too old for it??? LOL!!!

Another beautiful amethyst cluster ‘simply’ wrapped, by this I mean with more wire than stones, 2 days of thinking and tough wrapping (ouch my fingers!!!!)… It looks so BRUTAL!! I absolutely adore it, and have decided to keep this one for myself… A nice start to 2010 lol!!!

Une deuxième améthyste brute, plus grosse, celle-ci montée en pendentif avec moins de pierres et plus de wire. Deux jours de cogitation et de wrapping à s’arracher la peau des doigts MDR… le wire wrapping est une occupation dangereuse!!!
C’est un pendentif imposant et lourd (52 gr.), à ne pas mettre entre toutes les mains… d’ailleurs, j’ai décidé de le garder pour mes mimines à moi !!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

As this year draws to a close, here are a few of my favourite things 'discovered'
this year...

Belly dancing:

Here in Turkey, belly dancing is reserved to an elite of professionals, they are very young, always beautiful, very skinny and extremely supple... They are truly incredible to watch! And having tried it myself, in all my 'rolls of fat' splendour, I can tell you that it goes beyond a few wiggles of the hips... It's tough, sensual, feminine and delicate, and an excellent exercise! Go oooon, try it, you know you want to... :)

The work of Sarah Williamson:

Her work just blows my mind away, it looks organic but it is soooo tidy and the wirework is UNBELIEVABLE!!! SOOOOOOO inspiring!!!

As always, cocktail ring are a few of my favourite things :)

Wendren's eye:

Wendren's blog is a visual treat full of surprises, packed with exotic and colourful photos, really well taken, that each time transports me in another world. Her vision is so inspirational, so is her philosophy, I love her new coffee bag, in fact I love all her bags! Wendren's work is filled with passion, and what impresses me most is the way she looks at the world around us, and generously shares her vision. Love the Wren!

Steampunk:

I just loooove this! Steampunk is inspired by the 19th century mostly, when steam power was widely used. It has elements of improbable technological inventions, like in Jules Verne's work, and films like 'Wild Wild West' and 'The League of Gentlemen'. Steampunk fashion and jewellery just strikes a chord with me! I love the corsets, the long skirts, ladies with guns in bustle dresses, with jewellery made from bugs climbing on vintage watch movements... fabulous... :)

Time for another ride on the Merry-Go-Round!!
Jump on and join a group of 9 artists/crafts-women as they link around the world and tell you a little about their lives in art and craft...

This month’s question: What is your purple cow?

Yes, funky question isn’t it? It relates to Seth Godin’s work and book ‘Transform your business by being remarkable’, where the key to success is to make your work stand out…so the question here is to recognise what makes our work stand out from the crowd, just like a purple cow would stand out in a field of regular cows.

I have been thinking about it for a few days and it’s much easier to see the purple cow in other people’s work… lol…

I reckon there’s a few shades of purple in my cow, one of them is that I tend to make huge pieces of costume jewellery, some of my cocktail rings are particularly humongous, and they are always seem to get a reaction in people. I am an attention seeker and my creations are no different!

Another shade of purple would be the sheer amount of natural and semi-precious stones I use in my work. Semi-precious stones are magical, and I am yet to meet someone who does not like stones…

Then there’s the style of my work which is baroque, ornate and intricate, it looks complicated even if it’s not, it’s OTT and ‘life’s too short’ type of feeling, which especially in these harsh times, can be quite appealing…

I also try to add another dimension to a creation by giving the inspiration behind the piece; it can be a picture or a short text, a quotation, a title and so on. I am very drawn to the world of fairy tales, witches and wizards, pirates and so on, children’s books like Cinderella or Peter Pan, and this fantasy world is obviously very popular!

This has been a difficult question to answer, but a very rewarding one, give it a try!!!

Une bague imposante, entièrement réalisée à la main grâce aux techniques de wire-wrapping, avec 3 couleurs de fils métalliques, des pierres naturelles (grenat, améthyste, agate, onyx, cornaline), de la nacre, des perles d’eau douce, du cristal et du verre…

Une palette de couleurs un peu victoriennes, à l’image peut-être du passé glauque et sanglant de la Tour de Londres qui abrite aujourd’hui les Joyaux de la Couronne britannique...

Merry-Go-Round - Failure sucks but instructs...

Every month the 9 of us blog on the same subject, and this month's headline is: Failure sucks... but instructs!!

I learnt basic silversmithing skills a few years ago, and quickly became the most prolific member of the class. I was also the ONLY one who made ALL the mistakes under the sun… but I could not help it, this was the way I learnt then, I wanted quick results and I wanted to try everything my way. I remember feeling like someone who invented something new every time, so when I fluffed up (and I did countless times…), I just kept on trying… It was fantastic!!! I lost time and money, but I also learnt LOADS. Now I am able to imagine the end result before starting a project. Had I not ‘failed’ so many times, I would not have been able to learn that particular skill. And that’s just one example, but it is a very important skill for me personally. I also got technically better and although I am not silversmithing at the moment, when I do go back to it I will not make the same mistakes again. Invaluable LEARNING. No 'failures' there!!
So what’s failure? The opposite of success? No, I personally believe it is an integral part of success. I believe one just can’t become successful without being the best at what one does, and you are the best because you know what works and what doesn’t work for you. So one will 'fail' along the way BUT learn from one’s mistakes. I believe failure is finding out something that does not work; the word failure does not have to convey the bad vibe, the negative connotation, the sinking feeling of something final, on the contrary, ask yourself why it did not work and your next project will be better.
I also believe that with businesses like ours, we have to be prepared to take risks in order to move forward, and by accepting to take risks, we must also accept to make mistakes along the way. These are not ‘failures’, they are part of a growing business that’s going somewhere... :)

Je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher de craquer pour ce cabochon de résine super bien détaillé, une calèche avec chevaux… Moi je vois Cendrillon qui s’enfuit du palais au douzième coup de minuit !! Monté sur synthétique, serti de wire, de perles d’eau douce et de toutes petites perles de verre. 5 cm de diam...

I couldn't help but fall for this super detailed resin cab depicting a horse-and-carriage... All I see is Cinderella fleeing from the palace at midnight!! Fixed on a synthetic base, the cab is bezelled with wire, freshwater pearls and glass seed beads. 5 cm diam.

Merry-Go-Round... What's your next chapter?

Every month 9 artists/crafters blog on the same question, and our question this month is:

What’s your next chapter?...

Well, to be honest, I’ll find out what my next chapter is when I finish writing this post, lol…:)

I think I should start by looking at what I have achieved so far and how far I have gone, what I enjoyed doing and what was successful (and not so successful of course).
So I opened my first shop 2 years ago to see how my little wire-wrapped pieces were going to be received, and 2 years later I have 5 shops on 3 platforms, selling creations and wire-wrapping tutorials (in French!!).

Let’s just say I am bowled over… Never have I had a creative bone elbowing me in the eye telling me this is what I should have been doing all my life, and today I get custom orders on a regular basis… Amazing… hysterical even lol… A big thank you to everyone!!

So my next chapter… Whilst I am quite happy to continue with my current style of creations for a little while longer yet, I do however think it very important to have a goal…Something to enable me to move forward... Otherwise I'll get bored... So where do I want to get to? Well, through trial and error, I have discovered that costume jewellery is my “niche” as many wrappers use precious metals and stones for their art, while I am quite happy to play with plated and base metals, semi-precious stones, crystals etc. as it keeps the cost down and you get a bit of affordable ‘bling’… I would have loved to play in the big playground of ‘fine jewellery’, but I always knew deep down that I am more of a Coco than a Murcia… lol… (no offence).

Do I want to keep creating? YES! Absolutely!
Do I want to expand? YES! But I can’t create more than I am doing at present, so expansion will have to come from selling supplies, stones and more tutorials perhaps… Creating is the key though, that’s the best part. So I’ll explore wire-wrapping to the full and see where it can take me. I’ll learn new techniques, and I hope I’ll create a few too.

To be successful at creating one has to develop one’s own style and it is so difficult with so many jewellery artists and wrapping artists. Your own style has to shine through, so how can I achieve that? By specializing in some way, by restricting myself into a ‘field’ and explore this ‘field’ to the maximum, my cocktail rings for example…

Actually I have very recently made a ring that at the mo I consider to be my BESTEST item to date:

It just LOOKS Haute-Couture to me, and Good God stop screaming – of course I am not comparing!!! This ring has no precious metals or precious gemstones, however it is dripping with natural semi-precious stones, and it FEELS like Haute-Couture… So maybe that’s my next chapter: “Basse-Couture”, the look of Haute-Couture without the price tag… Whaddyafink?

Here is a funky project I can show you now the finished articles were received by their new owner Annie (and Sylvie) in France. Annie is a lace collector and a lace artist, and she asked whether it was possible to transform lace bobbins into pendants... I said why not and here they are! Interely made of sterling silver wire 925 and natural stones: freshwater pearls, agates, amethysts, tourmalines.

Voici un projet dément très intéressant que je peux vous montrer maintenant que les articles ont étés reçus par Annie (et Sylvie) leur nouvelle propriétaire. Annie est dentellière et collectionne les dentelles anciennes, et m'a demandé s’il était possible de transformer des fuseaux en pendentifs… J’ai dit oui, pourquoi pas, et les voici !! Entièrement réalisés en fil d’argent 925 et pierres naturelles : perles d’eau douce, agates, améthystes et tourmalines multicolores.

Féérie / Fairy's Garden

My latest cocktail ring, more a case of 'embroidery' really, or lace, as an adorable lady compared it to (I'm extremely flattered, I consider lace to be an ART!) since it's on a flat support. Bursting with natural stones as always, lovely peruvian opal right in the center, soft pastel colours, unusual for me since I am drawn to bright colours in general... I ABSOLUTELY looooove this one, and wouldn't mind a bit keeping it for meself... :)

Derniere grosse bague en date, un peu broderie, un peu dentelle meme m'a-t-on dit (j'en suis extremement flattée, la dentelle pour moi est un ART!), aux couleurs pastels romantiques, inhabituel chez moi, avec une tonne de pierres naturelles comme d'habitude, et une fabuleuse petite opale péruvienne au centre. Je l'adooooooore totalement, et cela ne me generait pas le moins du monde de me la garder pour moi... :D

Merry-Go-Round - SUMMER!!

Before living in Turkey, this is what the summer season meant to me:
Holidays by the seaside…

Or by the pool… (this is the biggest pool in the world...)

Where you can meet interesting creatures…

Melting like ice-cream on the curb…

Getting a tan…

It also meant barbecues…

And picnics…

And at the end guessing what people had been up to on their hols…

Now here in Turkey there are really only 2 seasons: the sunny 6 months from May to October, and the not so sunny, cold and wet season from November to April. Summer still means the same to me: it’s outdoor living, sunshine and seaside fun, barbecues etc. The only difference is, it last much longer than summer itself! :)
